Frequently asked questions

  • What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that helps individuals manage intense emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, improve relationships, and increase mindfulness and emotional regulation. DBT focuses on building four key skill sets: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  • Who benefits from DBT?

DBT is particularly effective for individuals who experience: - Intense emotional dysregulation - Self-harm or suicidal ideation - Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) - Anxiety or depression - Challenges with relationships or communication - Difficulty managing anger or impulsivity. We offer DBT skills training for adults, teens, and children, and tailor our approach to each individual's needs.

  • Does Edgecare360 offer DBT groups?

Yes. Edgecare360 offers DBT Skills Groups for the following populations: - Adults: Mondays at 4:00 PM - Teens: Tuesdays at 5:30 PM - Children (Ages 5–8): Wednesdays at 3:30 PM

Groups are structured in 6-week rotating cycles. Clients must complete an intake session before joining a group.

  • Can my therapist provide DBT in individual sessions?

Yes. Our therapists are trained in DBT-informed care and can provide individual and family therapy sessions using DBT principles and strategies. While full DBT includes group work and coaching components, many clients benefit from individualized DBT-based interventions as part of their weekly therapy sessions.

  • Is DBT the right fit if I don’t have BPD?

Absolutely. While DBT was originally developed to support individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, it has since been proven helpful for a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, and impulsivity. Many of our clients who do not meet criteria for BPD find DBT life-changing.

  • What happens in a DBT group?

DBT groups are not process groups—they are structured, skills-based sessions. Participants learn practical tools and strategies to manage their emotions, navigate conflict, and respond to stress. Homework and skill practice are encouraged between sessions for maximum benefit.

  • How do I get started with DBT at Edgecare360?

Simply fill out our intake form online or call our intake team to schedule your DBT intake. After your intake, we’ll match you with the most appropriate group or therapist based on your age, availability, and treatment needs.
